Gateshead Older People's Assembly is a
voluntary organisation, run by older
people for older people.
We aim to support the empowerment of
older people, to lead fuller lives in
their local community.
The Assembly is a friendly and
informal
group, that is tackling local and
national issues at a local level, for
instance, recent transport issues and
supermarket home delivery services.
Our membership presently stands at
over 1600 members.
Each member receives our quaterly
Newsletter and occasional
mailing containing information on
pensions, housing, benefits etc.
The Assembly has developed a
comprehensive information library with
numerous publications/leaflets which
enables us to help you.
In addition to these activities we
also have contacts with many other
voluntary organisations and statutory
bodies such as Age Concern, Help the
Aged, Gateshead Council, Primary Care
Trust, the Foundation Trust, Warm
Zone, Safety Works and many
more.
We display materials and pamphlets at
functions arranged by such bodies and
take part in events such as The
Felling and The Ryton Festivals.
We also respond to invitations from
groups who wish to know more about the
Assembly's work by speaking at coffee
mornings, lunch clubs and other
organised meetings and arranging our
own events in various parts of the
borough.
We have a dedicated group of
volunteers who support us at all the
events we hold. If you would be
interested in helping we would love to
hear from you.
